At the end of April, Nebraska Writing Project teacher consultants Dan Boster and Jeff Grinvalds, journeyed westward to Portland, Oregon, for the annual Urban Sites Network Conference. Boster and Grinvalds were in Portland to present the work they did during the 2009-2010 school year with the Urban Justice League.
During the conference, they shared their amazing experiences working with teachers from Omaha Central, Omaha Benson, Omaha Northwest, and Omaha South as well as about 35 students from these schools and Ralston and Westside. It was a great chance to share the good news of the project and all the cool things that are going on in Nebraska. About 15 people attended their session. The presenters made connections with people across the country who are interested in continuing the work of teachers and students engaged in social justice.
Of course, in addition, Dan and Jeff also got to enjoy many of the great things Portland had to offer. Dan went on a biking and writing marathon while Jeff participated in the walking and writing marathon.
“Portland was an amazing place to visit and we had a great time.“
